"Mountains up ahead!"

"Mountains up ahead!" - My mother is the second oldest of five children, an outdoorsy family who loved camping trips, on their trips to the mountains who ever spotted the mountains first would exclaim 'mountains up ahead' and of course enjoy the victory of being the first to see the mountains. The line 'mountains up ahead' was used at every opportunity this past weekend. It was fun to see my mom relive simple childhood memories in the company of her siblings, parents and the rest of the Ellsworth side of the family (27 total). We planned the mountain weekend last winter as a surprise for my Grandmother's 80th birthday, after her two strokes in mid-february it was decided that this was to become a weekend to look forward to and Grandmama was let in on her birthday surprise five months early. With all of the scary health issues facing the family, this was just what we needed, a family trip! The house was WONDERFUL, it fit all 27 of us comfortably, the deck seemed endless, a creek ran around the back half of the house, a fire pit set up, hot tub.... need I say more. The house was also wheelchair accessible which we wouldn't have been able to do without. We enjoyed the beautiful Fall weather, went on a six mile hike (that was more like a climb - it was so hardcore), ate SO much food, took in the fresh air and simply relaxed together. I left the weekend feeling so blessed for the family I have.

and made a cake replica of the camper that they had growing up!

Beautiful view from a point on our hike. I love the mountains in the Fall.

Hard to visualize, but I'm trying to make the point of how hardcore this hike was - ha.
